Week 3

I focused on trying to speed up my major scales, fully knowing that this was suboptimal. I just wanted to get it out of my system. I got up to playing C and F major at 180 bpm quarter notes, fast enough to satisfy my beginner's curiosity. Towards the end of the week I switched to playing all the major scales in order of fifths at 60-80 bpm. I will speed up asspeed become natural and does not come at the expense of consistent volume or legato.
Something that struck me while practicing the major scale was a multi octave scale run contains each of the modes for that key. I made a note of which finger plays the 6th degree of the major scale on each hand and compared it to Rico Raven's suggested fingering of the minor scale, boom. Money for nothing, and modes for free.
Re coming up with a better learning plan, I remembered that Zombie Guitar recommends for guitarists interested in learning 'keys' an inexpensive program called 'Piano for All'. I further recalled that my wife had purchased a copy of the same a couple of years ago. I found it on her computer and haved decided to give it a try. More on that next week.
