I just installed Ubuntu Gutsy to try it out. Very nice.

I did run across one annoyance, the subject of this post. I use ssh a lot, so the first thing I installed on the new Ubuntu box (Beavis) was openssh-server. Beavis lives on the third floor of my house, I tend to shell in from the first floor via my Powerbook. I noticed a long delay, about 10 seconds, while logging in.

Some googling turned up a solution, which I record here on my prosthetic memory. The fix was on the Mac side, and is pure cargo cult. I edited the /etc/ssh-config file and added the line

GSSAPIKeyExchange no

After that, no more delay. I have another box upstairs running Ubuntu Feisty, but never experienced any delay shelling into it. Go figure.
